The Lotus Seven is an example of a car that you don’t take to meet your girlfriend’s parents for the first time. However, the Seven is the perfect car to take to a track day or a twisty mountain road on a sunny spring day. Today’s Seven is interesting because it has a Yamaha sportbike […]
In the early 70s, Lotus decided to sell its (kit) car business and focus on racing and a few up-market sports cars like the Lotus Esprit. A company called Caterham jumped at the opportunity to buy the remaining Lotus 7 inventory and started building their version called the Caterham 7. Production of the Caterham version […]
If you’ve ever seen a cool looking Lotus Seven looking car on the street, it is probably a kit car. Not that that’s a bad thing, but real Lotus Sevens are rare and if you see a good looking Lotus styled-thing, it is 99% a kit. However, if you see something that looks sketchy, it […]
I wonder if someone looked at the Honda S2000 and said “this car is too heavy and too safe…I’m going to fix that.” A few hundred yards of welding rod and a few bent pieces of aluminum later this next beast emerged from the shed. With 240 horsepower from the 9000 rpm screaming Honda VTEC engine and the curb weight of a wicker basket, this thing should fly. Find this 1965 Lotus 7 Replica offered for $9,750 in Dublin, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
I’ve never owned one, but have had the opportunity to go for a ride and drive a Lotus Caterham Seven (this was a late model kit car with a 300 horsepower turbo 4-cylinder modern engine) and it was exhilarating to say the least. No, it was terrifying, as a passenger or as a driver. But that was a kit car, and I prefer my cars to come with some history, some patina, some sweat equity needed, like this 1971 Lotus Seven S4 offered for $10,500 in Southeastern Arizona via craigslist.
A legit ’60s Lotus 7 will set you back something starting around 50 large…and the same goes for building your own brand new Caterham 7…but you can get the same open air light weight feeling of acceleration and danger at a fraction of that bucks with a used kit like this next thing. Find this 1992 […]

Find this 1960ish Lotus Seven kit offered for $6750 in Hubbard, OH via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck. From the seller: 2013 Lotus fuel: gas […]
The Lotus 7 epitomized Colin Chapman’s philosophy of high performance through low weight and simplicity. The original 7 was produced by Lotus from 1957 through 1972. A cottage industry of 7 clones sprung up after production ended and exists to this day. Very few of these clones are the same as the builders can be […]

Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman left the corporate world behind in 1952 to build kit cars with his mates in a shed behind his house. He probably never expected that his second creation, the Seven would live on into 2015 and beyond after selling the rights to it to Caterham in 1973. The last hurrah of […]
