What makes this next Manx a senior versus the regular Manx? Oh. SR. Not Sr. The SR was short for Street Roadster, and it took the Manx from a doorless/topless dune buggy to a scissors-door equipped street car…but kept the OG plastic body and minimalist ethos. Find this 1970 Meyers Manx SR offered for $14,000 […]
The Meyers Manx was the original dune buggy for the unwashed masses, but the roofless, doorless, and dry-weather-only setup isn’t for everyone (even the unwashed, who probably appreciated an occasional rain shower). A few years later Bruce Meyers designed the SR (short for Street Roadster) which added a small top and scissors doors to the […]
The Volkswagen type 1 based custom car comes in many forms — from the most basic Meyers Manx, to the wild things like the Silva S160, but there is an entire catalog of interesting kit cars that can be picked up for cheap. Like this 1973 Volkswagen Manx Buggy offered for $5700 in Inland Empire […]
I’ve been leering drunkenly at Myers Manx style dune buggy kits for many years, and someday I’ll buy one to tool around and enjoy the “beach” vibe, but I can tell you one thing for certain: My Manx won’t have been used to store a creepy assed clown mannequin. I guess it is never too […]
The Meyers Manx was the original dune buggy for the everyman, but the roofless, doorless, and dry-weather-only setup isn’t for everyone, so Bruce Meyers designed the SR2 version which added a small top and gullwing scissors doors. The builder of this example ditched the typical VW flat-4 and instead went for a quad-carbed Corvair flat-6 […]
Bruce Meyers was the father of the late 1960s VW based dune buggy movement but plenty of other folks built little buggys in various quantities. A guy named Brian Dries built something he called the Bounty Hunter out of a small workshop in Burbank, CA, — and to be totally honest, I didn’t know anything […]

Find this 1973 Meyers Manx SR2 offered for $10,000 as a roller or $15,000 with dual port engine in […]

Bruce Meyers wasn’t the first guy to build a Volkswagen based dune buggy, but he put his name on enough examples that he became the face for low volume VW kit cars in the 1970s. The original Manx dune buggy was developed for jumping over dunes, but in 1970 Meyers introduced the Manx SR, a […]
Back in the 1960s Bruce Meyers took the concept of the custom built dune buggy (similar to the examples that cruised around Pismo Beach, CA) and turned them into a reproducible thing. The original concept was sold as the Manx, but later Bruce and his team introduced a miniature off-road only buggy called the Tow’d. […]
