When I first saw the details on this next car, I thought “wow, that’s a lotta miles for a 2007″…but then I pondered more and thought “that’s a lotta car for $8500”. The 4th generation Lexus LS (internally known as the XF40 at Toyota) has a 4.6 liter UR-series V8 that pushes 375 smooth horsepower […]
Let’s pretend for a minute that you (yes, you) aren’t a bot reading DailyTurismo searching for a way to insert some spam links, and let’s instead pretend you a fresh college graduate living in Houston. You’ve finally gotten a decent promotion and now you need car that is an upgrade from your Mom’s ancient hand-me-down Saturn you’ve been driving for the past 5 years, so you head to your local Toyohondaistubishi dealer with $20k in your pocket. What can you get? Uggg. Some nasty looking econoboxes with CVT transmission and all the soul of a Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen made for TV movie and all the character for a Walmart t-shirt. Disillusioned, you head out onto Auto Mall Blvd with your head low, but then you spy a big black beauty at in the back of a BMW dealer lot…could that long wheelbase luxury sedan really cost less than a medium spec Accord? Find this 2012 Audi A8L offered for $21,591 in Houston, TX via cars.com. Tip from Jeff.
This next car has me tempted to violate my “no white car” rule. Trucks / vans / teeth / sneakers all look great in white, but cars should be a color…green, blue, red, orange, whatever. But this next car left the Sindelfingen factory in 2007 with a 388 horsepower V8 and a $90k MSRP before adding options, and I’m not as offended by the white paint as I should be. Today, it is offered for 1/9th of that original factory fresh price and it has at least 1/9th of its life left before it turns into scrap. Find this 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550 W221 offered for $10,995 in Burr Ridge, IL via autotrader. Tip from Jeff.
Most of the modified/custom cars out on the street are poorly built piles of Pep Boys junk, but this next car is an example of when a car enthusiast takes the original OEM design and improves it with a few subtle alterations taken from other models from the same OEM. I call this OEM+. A manual gearbox wasn’t available in the USDM E38 7-series, the last 7 with a stick was the E32 735i. The central element of this custom is the 6-speed manual from an M5 mated to a limited slip diff, but the builder focused on the interior with a slick M5 gauge cluster install and an OEM style radio nav system. It is shockingly well done. Find this 2001 BMW 740iL 6-Speed offered for $7,995 in Wareham, MA via craigslist. Tip from Cory.
Before we get to far into the details of this next car, I’ve got to point out the major elephant seal in the room — this thing has a slushbox auto. But maybe that is okay in a car that was never designed to clip apexes or let you heel-toe. This is a car built […]
This next car comes as a tip from Doug who writes: Can’t apologize for this but if were looking for a: 1)DailyDriver with 2) low mileage 3) dependable history 4) a CA car 5) family sized 6) with boost 7) leather 8) no hood ornament nor ‘portholes,’ and a bunch more if your thinking along my […]
A quick look in your local craigslist for $5k cars is an experience not too far from dangling in a La-Z-Boy recliner above a hungry sarlacc pit with nothing holding you up but a harbor freight bungie cord that’s on fire. Sure, its a great way to get your adrenaline flowing while being super comfy, […]
Whenever I make the mistake of taking a tour around on public streets, I am aghast at the vehicles that I encounter. All manor of economy cars are clogging up lanes and people even seem to think it is appropriate to drive electrically powered automobiles. Particularly offensive is anything that doesn’t have the class, elegance […]

When you are down on your luck and things don’t look good, call a successful friend. That’s what British Leyland did in the 1980’s when they struck up a partnership to build cars in the European Union with Honda of Japan. BL hoped to build cars that would lift up its sagging image and Honda […]
