The Laser 917 won’t be the fastest car at the next Supercars and Coffee, or at the track, or at the next vintage Beetle club meeting…but it will be the coolest looking rebody of a Beetle you’ll find for less than $10k. Find this 1970 Elite enterprises laser 917 offered for $8000 in Granite Falls, […]
(by PhiLOL) Designed by Americans for Americans in the nation’s epicenter for automotive design, Minnesota, the Elite Enterprises Laser served as a continuation of the venerable Porsche 917. It maintained the aesthetics of the Porsche racer while incorporating considerably improved engineering, such as the elimination of excess cylinders to reduce weight. This particular example’s provenance […]
Staring out the window in a state of stupefied quarantine paralysis (yes, that is a scientific medical thing, doctordel can back me up) and I said to myself; Self, we are featuring too many custom kit cars on DT. But I looked at the recent DT postings and noticed that I hadn’t posted a kit car in over two weeks and I thought to myself; Self, we aren’t posting enough custom kit cars on DT. So, I’m over here having teenage girl mood swings like I’m the main character in the next Twilight saga book and suddenly the little YOU’VE GOT MAIL ICON pops up on my AOL inbox and it was a 917 laser with a water cooled GM V6 mounted out back. Yes. This will do nicely. Find this 1974 Volkswagen Kit Car offered for $8,500 in Schenectady, NY via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
The Chrysler Corporation was founded in 1925, but it wasn’t until 60 years later in 1985 that they built their first Chrysler branded sports car. Yes, we are talking about the Laser. Not to be confused with the Plymouth Laser, which was just a Mitsubishi Eclipse with a Plymouth badge, but this is the Chrysler Laser, which was a Dodge Daytona with a Chrysler badge. Yes, that meant it was front-drive turbo 2.2 liter 4-banger powered, but it is reportedly a fun little machine. Personally, I can’t wait till the 2025 Stellantis Lasers get released. Haha, Stellantis!! The jokes just write themselves. Find this 1986 Chrysler Laser Turbo offered for $6,500 in St Louis, MO via craigslist. Tip from Ben.
This next car comes from tipper Matt C who writes; It needs a lot of work – but the engine is still in the car and the connecting rods are still in the engine, which is about all you can ask for a $750 turbo DSM. For that matter, that’s a lot to ask of a […]
Another day, another hideous Poorch 917 replica…I know what yer thinkin. You’re thinking that the guys at DailyTurismo are hitting the bourbon early these days. No, not yet…the coronavirus drinking games are still mostly done after 5 o’clock…but what I can tell you is that I’d love the idea of driving something with a ludicrous […]
The VW Beetle based 917 Laser doesn’t look much like a real Porsche 917 and it doesn’t drive much like a real Porsche 917…but it offers an interesting combination of style and affordability that is difficult to match. It will perplex your Tesla driving neighbors to no end and is probably explicitly banned in your […]
I’m a fan of terrible cars, which is not so good for you guys because you’ve got to read this stuff and I write most of the articles, so you are going to need to suffer through some junk like this…crap, did I just say that out loud…double crap, did I just write that down. […]
I know…I know…Saying a Corvair powered VW-style kit car is like a Porsche 917 is the analogous statement to saying that Rosie O’Donnell is like the Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge — sure, they are both ladies (probably) and brunette..but um…yes, there certainly is a ride for every seat and a seat for every ride…or […]
The Mazda 323 was a pretty forgettable econobox sold in America based on the Japanese Mazda Familia, but there was an exception — the all-wheel-drive GTX version that put some extra zoomf in the Zoom Zoom, and today we’ve got a rally prepped example ready for dirt road hoonage for a dirt cheap price. Find […]
