The C5 generation Corvette was a monster of a performance bargain when it hit the market for the 1997 model year. Most were driven by white Sketchers owning boomers on the weekends, but a few did daily driver duty and racked up miles. Today, we’ve got a C5 that has a remarkable 341,939 miles on […]
More than 300,000 miles on an odometer is a serious feat in any car, particularly one with a large and complicated V8 under the hood. Today’s high miler is from Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus, which might give the average person the impression that it’ll last forever…but lovers of depreciated luxury cars know that stuff breaks […]
The Honda S2000 is known for its legendary F20C inline-4 that pushes the limit of what a product engine should be able to do. The VTEC equipped 2.0 liter (later increased to 2.2 liters in the F22C1) pushes 237 horsepower out of its small engine by revving to 8900 rpm. The mean piston speed of about 5000 ft/min was something that only race cars could achieve and people wondered how long the Honda built engine could last with this much internal stress and piston ring wear and con-rod forces. This next seller doesn’t mention if he has ever rolled in a new set of bearings, but the engine has 422k miles and appears to have never been rebuilt. Maybe the next owner can take this car to 1 million miles. Find this 2001 Honda S2000 offered for $9250 in Treasure Coast, FL via craigslist. Tip from Ali.
Tipper Rock On sent in this next car with the note; There is always a lot of talk on DT of high mileage Mercedes-Benz diesels. Check out this Maverick’s mileage! Yes indeed, 469k miles is a boat load for any car, particularly one as basic and underappreciated as the Maverick. Anyway, I’d buy this car just to make it hit that 500k mile mark if I had a commute these days. Find this 1973 Ford Maverick offered for $5000 in Yorba Linda, CA via craigslist.
This next car comes as a tip from MattV who writes: If I bought this and it turned out to only have 200k miles instead of 736000, I would feel like I had been swindled. I have to agree — this car is interesting not because it has 9k miles (like the overpriced Miata from yesterday) but because it has three quarters of a million miles on the odometer. I’m picturing the scene from Ferris Bueller, but someone running the car in forward gear to add miles to this brown stallion. Find this 1980 Volvo 240DL with 736k miles in Evergreen, CO via craigslist.
If you’ve ever driven a BMW inline-6 with a few miles on the odo (and I have…do regularly, in fact) you typically wince every time you turn the key and hope that high revving beast will turn over and do its thing without something expensive going kablooee. Knock on Bavarian hardwood, it’ll start each time…and […]
