The Pontiac Trans Am was known well for its starring role as KITT in the campy 80s TV show Knight Rider, and there is an entire industry of parts to convert your ordinary TransAm into a turbo boosting beast with a feminine voice. It won’t drive itself, but it will convince your neighbors that David […]
Production of Pontiac’s Firebird ended in 2002 when the F-body was finally put to pasture and replaced by the Zeta chassis Camaro a few years later. Unfortunately, the carpocalypse claimed the Pontiac marque around 2009, which means we won’t see a Firebird TransAm version of the current Camaro. A pity, because the Firebird was always […]
Someone told me the other day; I’ve got a yellow Tojan, and I said; go to the pharmacy, they’ve got an ointment for that. It’ll be gone in a few days. But what he meant was, the Pontiac Tojan, which is a GM F-body (Camaro/Firebird) based kit car…whoops…not a kit car according to the seller…but it is an F-Body based 80s super car that was supposed to be a Ferrari competitor. Unfortunately, they don’t make a cream for that. Find this 1987 Pontiac Tojan offered for $25,000 in Conway, SC via craigslist
A few short years ago the early 2nd generation Pontiac Firebird (1970 -1974) was a cheap classic, but prices have soared, particularly for the Firebird Formula 400 version. Today’s next example isn’t a real deal Formula, but it has a 400 cubic inch Poncho V8 with a bunch of hod-rod goodies and is probably a hoot to drive. The price is high, but it probably cost more to build it. Find this 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 offered for $23,000 in Tulsa, OK via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
What do you do after you are done going offroading in your convertible Firebird? Why jet skiing, of course…or at least the seller of this next vehicle is willing to trade it for a jet ski, and I’m pretty sure this would drive like a jet ski, off or on road. Find this 1999 Pontiac Firebird offered for $3,500 in South Florida via craigslist. Tip from James.
Redbird? What’s a Redbird? I know what a Firebird is, but I’m not familiar with this Redbird…at least that’s what went through my head when I got this next tip from Rock On! A quick internet search later and I was an expert on Pontiac’s Colorbird offerings from the malaise era…if I could believe anything from a site curated by a hitman or another optimized for Netscape Navigator. It appears that Pontiac sold special colored versions of their TranAm starting in ’77 with the blue Skybird, followed by the ’78-’79 Redbird and ending with the ’80 Yellowbird. Today’s feature is a Redbird, which was only available with a Roman Red exterior, red cast alloy wheels, and Muppet Bordello Red interior. The number of Elmos that were tickled to death to finish that interior sickens me. Find this 1978 Pontiac Firebird Redbird offered for $6500 in Everette, WA via craigslist.
This next car might look like something that Jim Rockford would have chased down the bad guys (with a paint color change, of course) and done some serious J-turns or Bandit would have evaded Buford T. Justice across scores of county lines…but with the base (Buick sourced) 231ci V6 mated to a 3-speed auto, this car would have a hard time chasing down a kid on a bicycle, much less evading some baddy with a Pontiac LeMans or a full sized Ford. Despite that…I can appreciate that someone looking to get into the classic car hobby with an affordable and approachable classic could do much worse. Find this 1980 Pontiac Firebird Esprit bidding for $3600 no-reserve in Tempe, AZ with less than 1 day to go on BringATrailer.
The 1970’s were a wonderful time. Disco, Bruce Springsteen and Meatloaf dominated the airwaves. OPEC embargoes domaited the car scene. Pontiac sold the most Trans Ams in 1979 (116,535) so it is a good bet people were tired of the malaise era vehicles. This blue-gold beauty appears to be one of the 30,728 Trans Ams built with a 403 cubic inch engine and T-tops that year. While the seller is brief in his description the pictures speak for themselves. Find this 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am offered for $8500 in New York via craigslist.
This next car had me thinking to myself; “what in the blazes is a Firehawk?” Yeah, there is no shame in googling some obscure car, particularly when it isn’t a factory built machine, but is something modified by SLP Engineering outta Troy, Michigan that was available as a dealer option. The Firehawk added 17-inch wheels, […]
Most of the Firebirds you’ll find littering the pages of this website are the older “Rockford Files” bird, or the cheap Knight Rider generation birds, but this next car comes from 1993, which was the fourth and final generation of the legendary thunderchicken. Find this 1993 Pontiac Firebird offered for $3000 in Snohomish, WA via craigslist. […]
