It’s 5am on a fine Monday morning, time to raise your hands in the air and count those digits. Unless you are some kind of polydactyly freak, like Anne Boleyn or Antonio “El Pulpo” Alfonseca, you will see a magic number, which in the world of BMW’s M-cars, means only one thing: speed. Well…maybe speed […]
At the turn of the century, the Catfish Camaro was ready for an 8-year hiatus from its noodling adventures, GM started promising that Australia’s raucous Holden Monaro would leave the outback behind for endless Saturday-night cruises as the Pontiac GTO, and the BMW E39 Touring was shuttling the upper half’s offspring to lacrosse practices in […]
The E39 BMW 5-series was sold from 1997 to 2003 for the North American market. The selection of engine/transmission & suspension parts was an evolution from the outgoing E34 5er, but the classy styling was one of the last pre-Bangle designs and penned by Tokyo born Joji Nagashima. Find this 2000 BMW 528iT wagon for […]
The station wagon has always been the answer to the question of: how do I shove all this junk and my kids into a car and drive around? For most wagons, the handling/ride quality seesaw has been tilted toward the comfort side of the spectrum. This was the case until the Germans put their eye […]
The E39 generation BMW 5-series was built from 1995-2003 and was available with fuel sipping diesel engines (but not in North America), silky gas I6s and brutish V8s. The range topping M5 is certainly the maniac’s choice, but the 540 is still a competent car for about 1/3 of the price. In fact, the E39 […]

Everybody wants cheap, manual transmission, fun to drive, useable, […]

The Daily Turismo is proud to introduce a new kind of post, the Face-Off, where we compare and contrast two similarly priced cars. Today we offer you 6 speeds for 6 thousand dollars, a fantastic speeds/dollar ratio and each transmission is wrapped with German steel, style and luxury. The contender on my left is a […]
We’ve heard (and said!) it many times: BMWs are the best, they even smell great covered in guano, they taste good dipped in ipecac and wagons are even better…yaddy-yaddy-yah <insert generic BMW fanboy nonsense here>. The real problem is that you can’t beat the amount of depreciation and hoonability of a good used BMW, especially […]
The BMW M5 is one of those uber expensive luxury sedans that depreciates to ultra cheap a few years after it is released. DT top tip: always look for an example that is one or two generations old to get the best M5 for your buck. The E39 M5 is now two generations old and […]
