Mercedes-Benz diesel engines from the 70s/80s/90s are noteworthy for their ability to outlast all of the other parts of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, even though those vehicles were built to a high standard. The legendary Daimler quality reputation took a hit during the Daimler-Chrysler era but the diesel engines still seem to last longer than their […]
There is a common misconception amongst regular folks that when a car gets to be over 10 years old, it just becomes an unreliable piece of junk. This just isn’t true. Or at least, it isn’t true anymore, because there was a time when daily driving a 10 year old car was unthinkable or at least uncommon, but that era ended in the 1950s when auto makers finally figured out how to put together good stuff. However, if you put aside your uninformed prejudices about old cars and get past the “its unsafe” nonsense (if you are older than 40, you probably spent most of your childhood riding around in the back of a car or pickup without a seat belt) then you will realize there is no reason to drive the over-digitized and hyper-plasticized garbage that comes from factories today. Your family might not agree with your lifestyle, but you’ll be happy that you don’t have a car payment. Find this 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 offered for $4,500 in Fountain Valley, CA via craigslist. I had a good friend who always said: If you are going to do something crazy — don’t go half way. Commit. Full send. No regrets. I don’t talk to that guy anymore because he was insane, but I think I might have found his next car, or at least a conversation with a kindred spirit. Because if you are going to have a car that is dedicated to the Joker, it better be purple…and the only thing I’d change is it needs some green rims. Find this 1999 Mercedes-Benz E320 offered for $7650 in Maspeth, NY via facecut marketbook. Tip from Cory.
We’ve covered a number of Batmobiles over the years to the horror of the public, but we seldom feature cover cars for Batman’s arch-rivals, such as the Joker…and there was the time that the Joker hacked DT. But, I don’t believe we’ve ever featured a ride for Batman’s other evil enemy — the Penguin. Let’s fix that today. Find this 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 offered for $3900 in Philadelphia, PA via craigslist. Tip from Cory.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class isn’t quite the same luxury status symbol that it used to be (BMW, Audi, Lexus, Tesla et al have certainly gained in the mind of the 1% where Lincoln and Cadillac have faded) but there was a time when driving a W124 meant you were somebody. Or you were driving somebody around […]
The W124 Mercedes-Benz chassis was the first Benz given the official E-Class nomenclature and one of the finest examples of German engineering & build quality you can find. These cars are nearing 20 years old, but still feel/drive/look modern, something you wouldn’t say of most early ’90s American or Japanese luxury cars. Find this 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 […]
The W124 is widely considered the last over engineered Mercedes before accountants took over the reigns in Stuttgart. The W124 E-class drives like a modern car compared to it’s W123 predecessor which has a far more antique look and feel. These E-class cars have a strong following within the USA Benz community, but not so […]
The facelift (1994-95) Mercedes coupes sold in pretty small numbers so they are a relatively rare find on Craiglist. Imagine my surprise when cruising the interwebs and this clean example with a proper 5 speed appeared. I messaged the seller and found out he had in fact done the swap by using a donor 1988 […]
What is it about new cars that make people spend crazy amounts of cash on them? They sure do smell nice, but do you really need the latest gadgets, styling and license plate number? Or can you drive a 14 year old version of a similar car with only a few miles on the odometer? […]
When you casually mention buying a cheap ($10k) diesel Mercedes-Benz, most people will assume you are picking up some smoke spewing relic from the 80s…but they might be wrong. You could be talking about a car that cost $55k only 10 years ago, and can hit 60 mph in around 7 seconds. Find this 2005 […]
