The 1989 debut of the BMW E31 8-series marked a shift from its predecessor, the E24 6-series. Elevating itself into a more upscale realm, it boasted top-tier luxuries and exclusively offered V8 or V12 engines. While it might seem like a natural extension of the E24 6-series at first glance, the E31 was an entirely […]
When I saw the model year for this next car, I thought it was a typo. Did BMW really produce their classic Miami-Vice styled E31 8-series all the way through the 1997 model year? Yes. Development started in 1981, production launched in 1989 and BMW pulled the E31 from the US market in 1997 with a total sales figure of 6920 cars (and they continued to sell them in Europe through 1999). Pop up headlights and OB2 isn’t a combination you see very often, but I like it! Find this 1997 BMW 840Ci E31 offered for $15,999 in Hercules, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
You know what I love better than a gorgeous coupe fitted with a V12 powerplant offered for a reasonable price? One with pop-up headlamps…because fixed beams are for chumps. Yeah, there is only once choice — the BMW E31 8-series. Between 1989 and 1997 BMW sold only 7,000 of the shark nose E31 in North […]

This next car came to us as a tip from Michael B who writes: With the Grand Tour now making a splash I’m reminded of one of the prettiest Grand Tourers ever in my opinion. This one has been for sale for a while in my neck of the woods. Find this 1997 BMW 840CI […]
Between 1989 and 1997 BMW sold only 7,000 of the shark nose E31 8-series in North America, a luxury grand tourer meant not to just supersede the E24 6-series, but to also eclipse it in performance, price and prestige. It was available in base configuration with a V8, but real ballers splurged for the V12, […]
The E31 chassis BMW 8-series was an upmarket grand tourer from BMW, their first attempt in many years at building a real luxury halo car. It cost more than $70,000 in 1990 money when new and featured the latest in automotive technology..which is now obsolete and falling apart, and therefore prices are nice. Find this […]
