This next car comes as a tip from Rock On who writes: This could be a cheap project or an expensive paper weight. Yes, indeed. This car has 60k miles on the odometer and a base price of $203.5k in 1995…down to 1.7% of the original asking price. That’s gotta be a record of some […]
This next car comes as a tip from Johnny Bouncewell who writes: What could go wrong with a 32 year old, high mileage British Lux-o-Barge? I mean, for the price of a 15 year old mid range Buick, you’re getting a helluva lot of class…when it is running. DT: Oh man, this is tempting. How much fun would it be to drive this for a few miles a week (month?) for a few years and pass it one before something major blows up? Find this 1989 Bentley Mulsanne S offered for $8,500 in Albuquerque, NM via craigslist.
The Bentley Continental R released in 1991 was the first machine from Bentley to not share a body with a Rolls Royce since the ’65 Series III Continental and it was comically expensive. The gargantuan 2-door sedan sold for something in the range of $272,000 in 1991, which is $519,500 in today’s money. It has now depreciated over $500k in today’s money, so it has likely cost the various owners $500k in depreciation, $80k in maintenance (wag), and $19k in gasoline (85k miles at 10 mpg, $2.25/gal). That adds up to $7 per mile over the last 30 years. Or, more than 3x the cost of uber ($2/mile) and still MORE than double the cost of NYC taxi ($3.50/mile). Only London (£8/mile) has more expensive cab fees than driving a Bentley Continental R. Find this 1993 Bentley Continental R offered for $19,000 in Heber Springs, AR via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
The Bentley Turbo R wasn’t just ahead of its time (with features like dual climate zone control in the 80s) it was also so ruthlessly complicated that ownership 30 years later requires an undeniable amount of pedigree or masochistic tendencies. Power in the Bentley came from a Rolls Royce 6.75 liter turbocharged V8 that pushed […]
The Bentley S2 was only built in low volume, something less than 2000 ever left the factory between 1958 and 1962…so it seems mildly implausible to find one offered for less than $10k..but it is offered from an estate sale and the car does need considerable work…so maybe it isn’t a scammer? Seems like money […]
Here we’ve got a car that is really a story all by itself…because what do you suppose the total costs have been on a Bentley Turbo R for the past 126,000 miles? Let’s start with depreciation, with a base price of $203,500 plus $12,000 in options in 1997, this thing lost $200,000 in value over […]
Another day, another insane DT special edition face-off, where the penalties get called before the puck hits the ice. Today we’ve got a couple of heavyweight contenders, ready to accelerate your face into a pile of goo with 12-cylinder turbocharged power — each with an asking price around $20k. What do you get? The 2006 […]
Another face-off so soon? Didn’t DT just do a face-off? Yes, but those were cars that were remotely affordable and possibly a good deal — but this next face-off is firmly in the realm of the insane. With that in mind, what If you had $40k to spend on a used car with a Chevy V8 […]
If you are ever in the community of Chantilly located in the western portion of Fairfax County, VA with a few hours to spend there is a small dealer you might want to visit. The name Triple Z Motors does not sound impressive, but these guys have the market cornered on high powered, righteously depreciated, […]
