If you look at a running/driving example of a Porsche 914, it really doesn’t seem that old…but consider a few facts from the year this Porsche left the factory; the Watergate scandal was running its course through the defunct Nixon administration with jail sentences being handed out to various cat burglars and cover up artists, […]
When we get a tip from not one, but TWO of DT’s most famous tippers…well…that is a sign of something…not entirely sure of what, but I think it means the car NEEDS to get featured. Find this 1973 Porsche 914 with Chevy V8 offered for $6,500 in Cole Valley, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck […]
The Porsche 914 is the classic case of yet another fantastic chassis let down by the detestable Volkswagen type-something-or-other flat-4 engine. Sure, Dubheads will claim but this one has a Porsche head gasket, and the only thing that is from Volkswagen is every single other part…but anyone who has driven a stock one is going […]
With the prices of everything aircooled blasting through the roof, it seems only a matter of time before even the lowliest of flat-4 four powered things are coveted collector pieces for the Jay Lenos of the world — so act while you can. Find this 1972 Porsche 914 offered for $4,900 in Gleneagle, CO via […]

My own fascination with aircooled Porsches dates back a few years. I don’t have one of those stories about a grandfather/uncle/neighbor owning one, but I do recall a time when ordinary folks used them for ordinary commutes. I had a summer job (between years of college) working at a Porsche repair/restoration shop down in San […]
If you want to pick up an aircooled classic Porsche that isn’t a total basket case for less than $10k, there is only one game in town — the Porsche 914. Some folks will shout and yell that it’s got too much Volkswagen DNA lurking under the sheetmetal, but if you have watched the prices […]
If you aren’t familiar with the Luftgekühlt name — and if you don’t know how to pronounce it — don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Luftgekühlt is German for air cooled and pronounced like luft-guh-kewlt, but for two-time LeMans class winner Patrick Long and SoCal creative director Howie Idelson, it means passion. These guys have a […]
