Needs Some Love: 1972 Porsche 914

DailyTurismo Classic 914, German, Porsche 3

The Porsche 914 has seen significant price appreciation in the past few years, for reasons that I don’t understand or care to go into at this juncture, but to see a 2.0 liter powered 914 for less than $10k is a good deal, even if it does have a crazy paint job and a big green wing. Or maybe it is $10k because it has a crazy paint job and a big green wing…and has been sitting in a garage for a while, I dunno. Find this 1972 Porsche 914 offered for $10,000 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

Frankenstein: 1972 Porsche 914 V8

DailyTurismo Classic 914, Custom, German, Porsche, Seller Submission, V8 17

This next feature comes as a seller submission from Bill who told us that it is time to sell his “beloved Frankenstein.” He also describes it as a “1972 Porsche 914 with a small block Chevy wedged behind the seats…embarrassingly wide Carol Shelby Anaconda wheels, polarizing hand-laid fiberglass flares, Singer-esq interior.” The exterior is a bit rough, but the interior is better executed than expected and the wheels (Carrol Shelby Anaconda) have a nice vintage racer Minilite look to them. Find this 1972 Porsche 914 V8 offered for $7,200 buy-it-now or make-offer in Los Angeles, CA via eBay.

Chevy V8 Inside: 1970 Porsche 914 V8

DailyTurismo Uncategorized 914, Porsche, V8, V8 Swap 6

If you’ve never driven a Porsche 914, you owe it to yourself to find one and give it a spin. They are furiously agile cars and you feel connected to the road in a “my butt is only 4 inches above this roaring pavement” at 60 mph like nothing you can find in the showrooms today. The only downside is that they are pretty lackluster in acceleration with the stock flat-4…but you can find them with a Chevy V8 shoved where it shouldn’t be. Find this 1970 Porsche 914 with V8 offered for $10,000 in Fremont, CA via craigslist.

80s Body Kit Flare: 1975 Porsche 914

DailyTurismo Uncategorized 914, body kit, Chalon, Flares, Porsche 3

The 1980s were known as a time for Wall Street decadence, the end of the Cold War, birth of the internet, and (most importantly) the resurgence of performance in the automotive world after the dark ages of the 70s fuel crisis. This next car might have been born in the middle of the malaise era, […]

Renegade V-Eight: 1972 Porsche 914

DailyTurismo Uncategorized 'Murica, 914, Chevy V8, German, Orbital Velocity, Porsche, V8 Swap 11

The 914 was meant to slot into Porsche’s showrooms below the premium 911 but to also fill the top of VW/Audi’s lineup with a Volkswagen badge. But the suits at Porsche didn’t want to risk having the VW nameplate tarnish its image and convinced VW to allow it to sell all 914’s exclusively through its […]

Black and Tan: 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

DailyTurismo Uncategorized 2.0, 914, Aircooled, German, Porsche 4

We listed a Porsche 914 the other day and it generated to some discussion around these being a decent drive for the asking price…but the 1.7 liter engine isn’t the favorite and most would prefer an upgrade to the 2.0. Naturally, we were thrilled when tipper Rod sent us in this next car, which does […]

Looks Good In Red: 1972 Porsche 914 1.7

DailyTurismo Uncategorized 914, German, Porsche, Slow 9

The Porsche 914 was originally conceived as a dual purpose range topping Volkswagen and low-end Porsche, to replace the Karmann-Ghia and 912, respectively. The initial plan of marketing the 6-cylinder version as Porsche and the 4-cylinder as Volkswagen was eventually canned and lowly 4-banger version got a Porsche crest too — and today, the easiest […]

This next car comes from DT tipper Safety Fast who writes: I don’t know why it’s listed in two different ads at two completely different prices, etc. But it’s weird, obviously unusual, and rare. I wasn’t going to send it in at first because of the $24K listing, but when I found the $18K one, […]

Wisdom isn’t something you get from sitting around reading the internet, or is it? It probably doesn’t matter, but I will tell you one thing — my Grandpappy didn’t have the internet when he was a kid, but he’d always say “I don’t know much about German cars, but I do know the best ones […]

What is better than a nice V8 Porsche on a Thursday? Why TWO V8 Porsches because 16 cylinders is better than 8. But I’m going to avoid the classic 928 and instead look for something with a mid-engine feeling. Find this 1973 Porsche 914 V8 offered for $15,000 in Santa Monica, CA via craigslist. Tip from […]
