I have to be honest and admit that it took me a while to understand what I’m looking at, and it’s still a bit fuzzy. This appears to be a Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo that has been visually converted with Mitsubishi 3000GT front-end and side-skirt pieces, not a factory 3000GT VR-4. That’s not a […]
In the early 1990s, Mitsubishi built the 3000GT as a technological statement piece, a deliberate attempt to prove it could out engineer the establishment rather than merely compete with it. At the height of Japan’s performance boom, Mitsubishi wanted a halo car to stand toe-to-toe with the Toyota Supra, Nissan 300ZX, and Mazda RX7. The […]
The Mitsubishi 3000GT (and Dodge Stealth RT) was this crazy supercar built by Mitsubishi with a twin turbo V6 and all-wheel-drive and a 6-speed manual — sold as a competitor to the Toyota Supra and Honda NSX. The Mitsu/Stealth was rad except that you could also get the car with a non-turbo engine AND front-wheel-drive […]
Somebody wiser than me once said: The odometer on this car is like the birth year of my last girlfriend…I know it was pushed back, but I just don’t know how far. Today’s next car probably isn’t the victim of odometer fraud, but it sure looks nice for a 25 year old Mitsubishi. Find this […]
The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 was a 4-wheel-drive supercoupe that (when new) competed with the likes of Toyota’s Supra, Porsche’s 911 993, and Acura NSX. It was a triumph of technology over temerity in 1994, but 20 years later the Supra/911/NSX have appreciated into the climate controlled garages of the elite, while the 3000GTs are still […]
Hope all readers are enjoying your Sunday — perhaps a lazy afternoon in the garage, or a day jam packed full of sitting on the couch and preparing for Monday. Whatever you do, I hope it involves a few minutes of staring at this nicely preserved piece of classic Japanese rolling art. Find this 1992 […]
I hate to rag on any particular manufacturer or brand (except for Lincoln…what is Ford thinking?!?!), but one of the 21st century disappointments has to be Mitsubishi. Lets look at their 2015 lineup and match them up with one of the Seven Dwarves from Snow White. Mirage — Grumpy; Outlander– Sleepy; Outlander Sport — Bashful; […]
The Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 was Mitsubishi’s entry into the free-for-all cage match that was the 1990s Japanese sports car scene. Nissan had its turbocharged 300ZX and Skyline GT-R, Honda the superb NSX, Mazda the rotary screaming RX-7, Subaru sold a few funky SVX and even Toyota got in the ring with the bulletproof Supra, […]
Last week we discussed the Nissan 300ZX TT market and asked why the NSX, Supra & Porsche 993 have appreciated in the last two decades, but the 300ZX has languished in sub 2-year-old Kia territory. The big car missing from our discussion was the Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, another high-tech, high-power and high-complexity Japanese sports […]
The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 was the pinnacle of Japanese sportscar madness back in the mid 1990s. It had room for four, a twin turbocharged V6 up front, power going to all four wheels, active rear-wheel steering, active aerodynamics and a profile wider than Kim Kardashian in Hammer pants. When new, the 3000GT VR4 came with […]
