Syncro de Mayo: 1987 Volkswagen Type 2 T3 Vanagon Syncro

Tomorrow is Syncro de Mayo over here at Daily Turismo (and other places as well…I guess…), which is when we celebrate Syncro by featuring cars equipped with Volkswagen’s viscous center coupling device that put what little power the Vanagon made into all four wheels…wait…STOP THE PRESSES. I just found out, today, that the Vanagon (technically the Type 2, known as the Kombi/Bulli/Transporter/Caravelle/T25/Microbus) name is a portmanteaux of van and wagon. Van-wagon. Vanagon. VW was trying to give buyers the impression that the Type 2 was more like a wagon than a classic van. Maybe? What do you guys think? Also, send us your Synchro de Mayo tips for tomorrow! Find this 1987 Volkswagen Type 2 T3 Vanagon Syncro offered for $15,000 in Reno, NV via craigslist.

Very clean ’87 Syncro (straight Syncro, no lockers). This runs and drives beautifully. Previous to me this van was mechanic-owned. All seals are brand new, fresh Audi grey paint job, straight body, new tires, no rust. 250k on the van, 150k on the motor. This is an awesome canvas to create your dream camper with. The 4×4 Syncro has great clearance, so you can get to the best camping spots.

I set off to do the interior, but recent employment changes have prohibited me from doing so. I have everything needed to get it back together. This includes:
new insulation and complete panel set
front carpet set
vents, switches knobs, and plastics.
original front seats, original column folding back Z-bed with pad

Some extras:
Go-Westy swing away back bumper with tire rack and table
tow package
custom dash with contrast stitched pad
tinted windows, and UV tint on a new windshield
WRX bucket seats and custom momo steering column
new pioneer head unit with 360 birdview camera
brand new Memphis audio 6″x9″ and 4″ speakers

Additionally, I have had plenty of recent work, some of it includes:
New radiator fan motor and fan
New go-westy throttle body
new ICU and ICM
new paint
freshly painted headliner

Will trade for midsized short bed truck slide-in camper of equal value, or less +cash

Got something we should feature on Syncro de Mayo?
