Swap The Wrong Way: 1996 Toyota Tacoma S2000 Swapped

I love a good engine swap. But good is a relative term. Is it good to swap a high revving zinger sports car engine into an appliance like a pickup truck? The AP2 inline-4 from the Honda S2000 is an incredible engine, but does it belong in a vehicle designed to haul junk and tow? Yes. It does. I’d Honda S2000 swap a diesel Mercedes-Benz from the 80s, or a tug boat…but that is because I love a good engine swap and a good time. Find this 1996 Toyota Tacoma S2000 F22C1 Swapped offered for $12,000 near Providence, MA via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

This means that somewhere there’s a disappointingly slow 22RE-powered S2000 that will last forever.
This is the bearded Spock universe that I want to live in!! All Tesla’s are replaced by Piaggio Apes.
Sort of like putting a Jaguar XK-E engine in a Chevy pickup.
Or a rotary engine in a pickup…oh..wait…Mazda…
So you took something that relies more on torque than HP and rendered the pick up useless from it’s original intent. Granted a lot of pick ups don’t see actual hauling duty, but I digress. Owner has created the automotive equivalent of a platypus. Rest of the automotive world issues a ‘WTF’ in the form of a sigh. 🙂
Funny thing about Honda engines…the F22C1 puts out 162 ft-lbs of torque, while the 22RE puts out 138 ft-lbs…okay the Honda does it at 6500 rpm and the Yota at 3400, but just put some 7:1 gears out back and go to town!!
lol.. awesome.
