Supercharged Manual: 1997 BMW 740iL

James Bond (played by a young Pierce Brosnan, the second of his four Bond films) drove an E38 generation (1995-2001) 7-series that had a nifty remote cell-phone controlled driving apparatus, something that was Hollywood imagineering in 1997, but the car was actually controlled by a rear seat mounted steering wheel and a prone hidden stunt driver. That was a cool 7-series, but it didn’t have a manual gearbox or a supercharger like this next beast. Find this 1997 BMW 740iL offered for $18,500 in Tulsa, OK via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

$80k of upgrade work to create the ultimate master of the road, and then just flump it away on Tulsa CL for the price of an out-of-warranty Altima? But why?
This is probably the case of $80k of work done over the years and now that money is gone and the seller wants to move onto his next custom project. I see no problem with that!!
I dislike change and feel acute loss when I get rid of things, as you have experienced firsthand. That doesn’t mean I don’t go through interim solutions, or that cars don’t rust. The amount of work in this car seems like something done to meet personal preferences, but I suppose it could be just a building exercise like putting together a Lego Millennium Falcon. Expensive hobby.
I note a distinct lack of aluminum plumbing underneath the hood. Hard pass.
I had a Remus exhaust on my E36. It had a nice raspy sound. I wish I would have held onto that car.
