Street Taco: 1970 Bultaco Matador Mk III

I have to thank E-i-C Vince for taking my Taco Tuesday spot last week while I was visiting the Kingdom of the Giant Mouse.  Now back to our regularly scheduled programming featuring a Taco you can ride on the street and is the business (but not a business).  Find this 1970 Bultaco Matador Mk III for sale in Montrose, CO for $3,500 via craigslist.

Bultaco was a Spanish motorcycle manufacturer best known for off road and trials bikes.  They also built a few street bikes and in the late 1960’s attempted to cash in on the popularity of enduro bikes with their Matador, named after the model they had success with at the International Six Day Trial.  This Matador is a mark 3 generation, powered by a 250 cc two stroke single.  Note the kick starter on the left with the rear brake, opposite of today’s bikes (if they even have a kick starter).

Another interesting detail is the enclosed chain and lovely aluminium sprocket cover.  The rear tire is new, but looks like the originals.

On the right you will find the shifter and a bitchin’ exhaust pipe.  A little Simichrome will have it shining in no time.
