The famous “Red Pig” was a big baller W108 chassis 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL with a big 6.8 liter AMG built V8 pounding its competition into submission by sucking all of the oxygen out of the atmosphere. We’ve featured at least one tribute version of the rot schwein, but today’s car is an example from the next generation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is cheap enough to be turned into a racer for fun. For $700, with what looks like pretty clean bodywork and interior, the worst case is you’re looking at something to swap an LS into.
This is a W116, not a W126.
It’s amazing how similar the two chassis look to the uninitiated. Anyway, the W126 didn’t debut until 1979. I wonder what the biggest differences were between these two generations?
