Scruffy Survivor: 1974 BMW 2002tii
The BMW 2002tii is a unique kind of temptress. For years, she was a cheap way to get into something unique and sporty, but then prices took off and people started demanding silly money for the tii version and regular 2002 alike. But recently, I’ve seen more and more reasonably priced tiis and each one makes you stop and wonder…is something wrong with this car? Find this 1974 BMW 2002 Tii here on eBay
bidding for $9,001 with 1 day to go, located in Riverside, CA.
The tii version (touring internationale injected) is the premium
version to get — it adds fuel injection, rarity, and some special under
hood parts to up the cool factor on an already cool car. Tii prices
have been steadily increasing for the past few years and seem like a good bet for value of a drivable classic in the next decade or so.
The tii badge on the back of a “New Class” BMW indicates that it is
equipped with Kegelcaptcrunchfischerprice mechanical fuel injection, larger oil
feed/return lines, big brake discs/booster and a few other mechanical
goodies. Only 7500 of the tii edition were made for the US market and
today they demand a significant premium over a standard 1600/2002 in equivalent condition even though the fuel injected engine only
puts out 130 horsepower.
This 2002tii is offered as a “one owner” all original survivor, and for the current bidding price it appears to be a good deal. Just drive as-is, or spend your weekends fixing/restoring the little details…the choice is yours!

The wet pictures, no feedback seller, over spray, grungy, and untouched engine bay, all send up flares.
What going on with the bumpers?
It would seem that if it is such a great platform, and a non-scam EBay offering, the guy would have done more than spray water on it to maximize return.
The menagerie of cars around it perhaps indicate a guy buying cheap, flipping without doing much of anything beyond the use of a garden hose.
Why so low a price, especially in the heart of SoCal? The mechanical fuel injection on these requires the one old German guy left in Dusseldorf to ply his magical knowledge to get right.
It seems like one of those cars that if you are a competent wrench, it is worth a shot, but if you are paying someone to fix the endless old car maladies, keep walking. The square taillight cars still lag in value and they have a not so positive reputation for being less reliable than early ones.
I second that emotion. Whats with the lug wrench under the wheel? No 2002 owner I ever knew( including me) would have let their engine compartment look like that .I had the same factory a/c setup on my Baikal Blue sunroof carburetor '72. Wonder why the rear license plate is all akimbo. If you have the slightest clue about the audience for this car it seems to me that you'd put some effort into making it look purty…or at least not abused. That said I sold my Baikal Blue sunroof factory a/c with a transplanted 5 speed Gettrag for six thousand way back in the late eighties.so prices haven't gone as crazy as some think P cars have.
