Save the Sciroccos! 1984 Volkswagen Scirocco Wolfsburg Ed
The second generation Volkswagen Scirocco took the original Giorgetto Giugiaro design and stretched it into a car that looked less like a hatchback and more like a coupé. It was still based on the VW A1 platform shared with the Golf/Jetta and in the USA you could get an 8-valve or a 16-valve powered version. Today’s example is a “Wolfsburg” Edition, which was a trim package that added some badges and interior accoutrements and used the 1.8 liter 8v engine for power. However, instead of being built at the Wolfsburg plant (like Wolfsburg Golfs/Jettas) the Wolfsburg Scirocco was built at the Osnabrück plant, but it sports some wicked vintage VW of Kearny Mesa license plate frames and expired Cali blue plates. 1984 Volkswagen Scirocco Karmann Wolfeburg Edition – silver 2 door coupe. Original owner, original paint and original owner’s manual. I have most of the maintenance records. Oil changed every 3,000 miles. Cloth seats need repaired/ recovered. Never in an accident. Manual sunroof. Approx 265,000 miles. Last ran in 2003 so it will need to be towed or trailered. Delivery is not an option. Always stored in a garage or barn. Clean title. Tires have approximately 5,000 miles on them.

I had a 1st gen Scirocco S. Worst car I’ve ever owned. Bought it off two Mexicans wearing hair nets at a sketchy car lot in Anaheim. It could barely get out of its own way – a fact driven home time & time again by my jerkoff step brother who within a day or two of my purchase bought an ’80 RX7 that would literally run circles around my hooptie.
Doesn’t change the fact that I still think both Scirocco gens have impeccable styling.
This looks like quite a bargain for someone in a position to tow it out of there. Worst case is a complete engine replacement… and even THAT can’t be too expensive on one of these.
This little diamond in the rough is now the first car of a HS sophomore, SCCA/NASA Spec Miata Racer (Moyer Rennsport on fb), in Contra Costa County. He and his dad are freshening it up and doing some moderate upgrades. It isn’t going to be raced but it may see an occasional HPDE.
