Roasted: 1968 Volkswagen Custom Roadster

The seller of this next vehicle calls it a “Roaster” several times in the advertisement …which I at first thought must be a typo (Roadster?) but after seeing the car…I think it might be correct. It looks crazy. On the plus side, when you do get roasted by this thing, you won’t take your wife/kids with you to the great junkyard in the sky because it only has one seat. Find this 1968 Volkswagen Custom Roadster offered for $7,500 in Coulterville, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

I’m not sure why, but I kinda like it. Hand-built in America, just like the Panoz roadster… and at a third of the price! Haha. But seriously, you could probably tell 99% of the public that this is a Panoz roadster and they wouldn’t know you’re lying.
I don’t know if I’d tweak a few bits here and there to improve the looks or if I’d just keep it as-is and honor the vision of the old guy who built it. The info in the listing photos made me like his “why not?” attitude. If it’s built well, it’s cheap fun.
The poster apparently suffers from LDD (letter deficit disorder): Roaster, as…
…the print stuff in the ad photos are some the funniest build documentation I’ve seen in ages: “My blueprint was what I drew on the side of an ol’ cardboard box.”
-Stan (who owned a classic VW Karman Ghia Roaster…when the engine caught fire…)
Is that a corvette rear suspension?
Wow. Looking at the build photo I don’t see any VW stuff except the engine and transmission. I was expecting to see a chopped VW pan with a body, but this is very impressive.
