The M100 Lotus Elan used a lightweight chassis and a name borrowed from the historical Lotus archives…but it was powered by an Isuzu (and later Kia) 4-banger mated to the front wheels. The wedge styling was penned by Peter Stevens (of Jaguar XJR-15, McLaren F1, and assorted pedigree) and still looks nice today. These are really fun cars. I got to drive one on a twisty road and it was amazingly engaging. I know they get overlooked due to being front wheel drive, but the experience is really good.
If I had to daily drive a Lotus, I would probably choose this.
Or maybe a type 75 Elite if someone else were paying to finish the development work that the factory never really got around to and to maintain it.
Oh wait wait, I could rearrange my life in such a manner that one of the more typical Lotuses would be appropriate for every day use. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
So I get to thinking that maybe this would be a good deal, just get the windshield fixed. How hard could that be?
Well, apparently very very hard indeed.
I found a comment that a Geo Storm or Isuzu Impulse windshield fit. I would do more research and not just take my word but that sounds promising at least.
