Price Drop: 1987 Toyota Supra V8

We featured this car back in November when it was offered for $8500, but with the price down to $5000 this seems like a good deal, even with the spun bearing. That is what has probably stopped this car from finding a new owner, but if you are handy with tools and an engine hoist, this looks tempting. Find this 1987 Toyota Supra V8 offered for $5000 in Albuquerque, NM via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

This Supra was built by my son, Liver Cancer took him from us last year. I’ve been tasked with selling it for his wife. The car has a Lexus 400 dual overhead cam V8 with a four speed A340E automatic transmission with lock up.. Both engine and trans are controlled by a Mega Squirt computer. The car was a daily driver for over a year, but what I think was a washer got into the intake and wound up in the number one cylinder and bent the valves in that cylinder. I’m a mechanic by trade and removed and installed a rebuilt head. The engine started right up and ran smoothly, but it had a knocking sound which it turned out to be a damaged rod bearing which I think has spun on the journal. Oil pressure went to zero. I wanted a prospective buyer to be able to drive the car even if the engine was compromised. While that’s not possible now, at least you can hear and know it runs. So it’s a project car. It has near new tires, nice mags, all new upholstery, after market gauges, a spare builder engine in pieces minus one cylinder head, engine , body, and wiring manuals, new custom exhaust, and new parts to install AC. It will require a real car Guy/mechanic to do it justice. So check out the pics and call me for details if truly interested. Body is straight and paint is so so for its age. The car was a rolling chassis when my son bought it. I have no idea what the total mileage is. There’s a short video at this link that will show the engine running complete with the bearing knock. It proves the engine does start and run.
