Pioneer Longbed: 1989 Jeep Comanche MJ
The Jeep Comanche (aka MJ “The King of Pack”) was a compact pickup truck based on the XJ Jeep Cherokee — although the compact designation is decieving because this is no Subaru BRAT. The Comanche was available with AMC’s big 242 cubic inch inline-6 and a 7-foot long bed, neither of which was particularly compact. Find this 1989 Jeep Comanche MJ here on eBay
bidding for $3,155 with one day to go, located in Clayton, KS.
This is a pretty rough looking survivor example of an MJ, but it exudes the rugged coolness something the Marlboro Man would drive…if he hadn’t died of lung cancer. This MJ is optioned with the Pioneer package and powered by a 242 cubic inch inline-6 that is good for 177 horsepower and 224 ft-lbs of torque.

These are awesome trucks. Buddy in high school had one with the 190 hp 4.0HO straight six and a 5 speed, and it would lay a monster patch all the way through second gear before chirping third. I still keep my eyes open for a good one, but they are seriously few and far between. I would LOVE a 1992 Eliminator package on with a manual transmission, short bed, and 4×4. It's a serious unicorn though.
One small correction, the famed 4 liter straight six is a 232, not a 242, but I know what you guys meant.
