Pandemic 3-Speed? 1979 Volvo 244 V8

I am loathe to criticize other people’s custom work, especially when my own is nowhere near the level of a Singer or Icon…but I’m not going to complain about the front bumper speed holes or the “drag” wheel/tire setup in this V8 powered Volvo, but I feel obliged to take issue with a 3-speed for his (her?) transmission. It’s not like a 4-speed costs much more, and even 5-speeds are plentiful (don’t get me started on 6-speeds), and my understanding of domestic 3-speeds from ‘Murican hot-rod friends is that they are all junk and need to be swapped for 4-speed posthaste. But maybe there is some rare Muncie three-speed that can handle power and torque and you save your left leg because you shift less. Strange decisions for strange times, I guess. Classic Volvo with a Chevy V8! Motor is a recently built 350 with a heathy cam, lots of performance parts and putting down good power, less than 1k miles on the motor. Transmission is a 3 speed manual. The car is set up drag style with big rear tires in the back lots of traction.

“heathy cam”
Made of delicious toffee?
A website offering up kilt photos from rural Scotland?
It imparts a vaguely grassy odor due to its limited overlap and scavenging?
Pairs nicely with a nice Islay scotch no doubt!
Those speed holes look like they would help let a bit more air through the radiator. Probably should paint the area flat black so it doesn’t stand out so much.
Car needs a hood scoop, stat.
Hell it broke down above Scripps……couldnt get up that itty bitty grade………shifted into third and wth!……come on …come on …come…..ah…on
