One Owner: 1984 Honda Prelude

The 2nd generation Honda Prelude launched in 1983 was a big step up in refinement from the previous generation, which always looked like a child’s toy. The pop-up light equipped Prelude also picked up the cool 2.0 liter B-series Honda motor known for its tunability and reliability compared to the older E-series junk. Find this 1984 Honda Prelude offered for $4000 in Rohnert Park, CA via craigslist.

Four grand? That looks like a deal to me. Those were slick cars.
Boy this is tempting. My first new car was a blue 5 speed 84 Prelude. The car started on the first turn of the key in everything from 116 degrees outside to 25 below zero. Never let me down once. Finally donated the car after almost 300,000 miles. They said it had the “black death”, a problem with the emissions system where it couldn’t pass the local testing station. The repair was something like $1500 in 2001. The car was worn out and the family was growing. Still miss that one – no super sports car, but damn fun to drive.
165k miles! Wow, from the photos at least, it looks more like a 65k mile car.
Just goes to show (yet again) that parts of CA can be really kind to cars.
The same car in MN would be a pile of brown sludge by now.
