Oh Boy, Highboy: 1977 Ford E250 4X4 Chateau

Hey guys, I’ve got this plan. I’m gonna build a van, but its gonna be tricked out and custom. Lifted, 4X4, carburfamacated V8, chrome bumpers and grill. And it gets better on the inside. I’m gonna put two captains chairs on swively mounts in the back of a thick fur forest, and the best part; no seat belts. It doesn’t matter where you were sitting at the beginning of your trip, but any quick braking from the driver and you’ll be doing the superman through the windshield. It’s gonna be awesome. Find this 1977 Ford F250 4X4 Chateau bidding for $18,500 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go, located in Spokane, WA via ebay.

From the seller:
This van was purchased originally in Spokane from a Ford Dealership. My dad purchased it from the original owner in the spring of 1978 and has been in our family ever since for the past 45 years.
This was my dad’s baby and has always been well taken care of. It did spend 24 years down in Chandler, AZ before he moved back to Spokane, WA in 2005. And it has been in a Tempature Controled storage ever since unless it was on the road.
We recently drove it to a Vintage Snowmobile show about 200 miles round trip and it drove perfect. It is also a very comfortable travel rig.
It is a 460 Big Block with a C6 Transmission. Dana 44 x Dana 60 205 Pathfinder Transfer Case. C8 Gear Ratio. Options: AC, Intermittent Wipers, HO Heater, Wilderness Package, Locking Hubs, 4 Captains Chairs, Cruise Control, Duel Exhaust and Duel Fuel Tanks.
Motor and Trans Freshened Up about 30,000 miles ago. 750 AFB Carter Electric Choke. Newer Radiator, Heater Core, Windsheild, Alternator, Brakes and Newer Paint. Recently Serviced, New Hoses and Belts and Tune Up.
New Tires BFG 33 1250 x 16.5 and New Stereo and Speakers.
Very Nice running Rig just touch the Key and it starts.
VIN (Vehicle Identification Number):
E24AHY91210

No mention of the repaint.
I notice it has the ignition switch next to the driver door, like an old Porsche for lemans starts presumably. I’ve always seen them on the steering column in 1970s Fords and certainly on my 78. What’s going on here?
I like the idea of more easily hot wiring my truck when I lose the darn key, but wasn’t there some sort of law post 68 or so?
Oh, I see it now .
Still curious about the lemans start ignition though.
2 thoughts.
i zoom in on the interior shots from passenger door. that column does not seem to show signs of the now standard column ignition key cylinder – removal.
1. could it be that canadian versions did not march in lockstep with US models and this one snuck across border some years ago?
or
2. some enterprising soul was so irritated with chasing some ignition cyl. wiring problem, that he found the entire prev (60s) gen steering column (ign. lockless) version could be swapped in – clean, and use the vintage key cylinder from same cadaver econoline , remounted in its paleo- dash position on this one?
You might need shots before you enter that fur palace
