Not Your Grandpa’s Jag: 1995 Jaguar XJR

With the 1994 release of the Jaguar XJR (X306) performance sedan, the world was introduced to a supercharged AJ6 version of Jaguar’s bread and butter luxury sedan. It was fast, it was luxurious, it was a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. The automotive press (particularly those in the UK) rejoiced…mostly because press folks drive new cars from corporate fleets and don’t worry about maintenance. However, the surviving XJRs are probably well maintained and have enough oil coating the underside to prevent rust…so I’d give this two thumbs up for the asking price. Find this 1995 Jaguar XJR offered for $4950 in Jewett City, CT via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

From the seller:

Very rare 1995 Jaguar XJR….This is the 4.0 six cylinder version which came supercharged from the factory…..This model was only produced in 1995, 1996, and 1997….Jag imported less than 300 of these beauties in each of those 3 years…..This is the R version of the XJ series, and is much different from the usual XJ6….much different suspension and handling….Not your grandfather’s Jag!….Already a classic that will appreciate in value…..CALLS ONLY….I’M TOO OLD TO TEXT!

I love how quickly he manages to undermine his claims there.
Old guy forgot to add no calls after 7:30pm bedtime.
A a guy creeping into old guy status I’ve considered adding an old guy car to the fleet but space is scarce.
Well my grandfather’s 121st birthday is next week and he drove a Porsche targa. My other grandfather was born in the 19th century and was a WW I pilot so I guess the seller has a point.
Calls, that’s that other thing the iPhone does so people can offer to sell me a car warranty or warn me I’m about to be deported unless I read the number off of an Amazon gift card right?
Gorgeous limousine and certainly capable of fast travel in comfort, just remember growing up with British bikes and cars and just would not want to own one and maintain it. Would love to rent one for a weekend trip.
Ugh. I passed on one of these about 9 years ago for $800. It had transmission issues and faded paint. That said the motor sounded SOOOOO good.
A little while later, a 71 XJ6 came home with me on a flatbed. I still think one of these supercharged 4.0 motors matched with a manual would be the ultimate engine in an old Jag.
