Not A Wagoneer: 1964 Studebaker Daytona Wagonaire

This next car comes as a tip from Hugh who writes: There are probably more billionaires in the world (2,755 according to google) than wagonaires so this is pretty special. This seems to have had a nice repaint which is more than you can say for most billionaires. Find this 1964 Studebaker Dayton Wagonaire offered for $18,300 in Richmond, VA via ebay classifieds.

From the seller:
Vehicle Description
1964 Studebaker Daytona Wagon/Wagonaire. This car was part of a private collection and barn kept for more than likely the better part of 20 years just like the other cars that surrounded it. This car runs and drive, power window works perfectly. This unit was equipped with AC. We have absolutely zero knowledge about as they were extremely unusual but it does have a very very unique feature with a sliding rear roof panel and we have only been told about cars like this in the past. We have absolutely never seen one we are told they are extremely rare. This car also has emblems for Daytona on the front fenders as well as a eight on the side more than likely symbolizing V8 and wagonaire. Again we do not know much of the history we do know the motor is not seized up most of these cars we have been able to put fuel in the carburetor and a fresh battery and they will run most need fuel pump and fuel line system repairs and other things from sitting. This car appears extremely complete but feel free to run the VIN number and other things so that you know what you are looking at because we do not come from this era and cannot speak to what options and what features it should or should not have but we do know the sliding panel roof makes this one very unusual car.

Looks like it has a SBC engine. The S in the serial number typically indicates it originally had a 6 cylinder, and the C means it was made in Canada. All 64 wagons were made in Canada after December of 63, but they didn’t get Chevy engines until 65. The price seems optimistic – that’s a “perfect” car price.
“We dont know anything about this car but we heard the sliding roof is rare.Did we tell you the sliding roof ifs rare? Most cars we have we can get running this one not so much but look at the pretty rattle can paint job on the block” What a deal..
” we do know the sliding panel roof makes this one very unusual car.” and yet, the seller shows no photos of that sliding roof in its open position…
Hmm thought I saw them….
They are sort of buried in the ebay UI here

Nice pics and I love the sliding roof. It seems useless but maybe that’s why it seems so charming. If the seller calls it a Baur Targa and puts it up on the Bimmer forum he/she might hit the asking price.
The tail light placement was way ahead of its time too.
