No Door Handles- 1997 Lexus SC400 Widebody
You could make the argument that the Lexus SC400 is a Supra in a tuxedo similar to the Lincoln Mark IV and Mustang (written up here a couple weeks ago). It is safe to say that most any car is better or more certainly interesting as a widebody. However, it’s the details, details, and details that make or break a modified car. Today’s SC400 has a nice looking Duraflex wide body kit, but is ultimately let down by a few questionable mods that ultimately leave this one almost there. Find this 1997 Lexus SC400 for sale in Stamford, CT for $8,000 via craigslist.
From the seller:
It’s time to to day goodbye after 13 wonderful years . I’m putting 97 Sc400 up for sale. The car has been garage keep all 13 years I am the second owner and bought it in 2005 with 50k miles and currently has 132k. I haven’t driven the car in the last 5 years only around the block every couple months just to keep the fluids and parts running in condition kept her as a trophy.

Engine cold air Intake everything else all OEM and original never gave me a single issue with the engine strong motor no check lights . Custom exhaust straight pipes 2.5″ deleted resonator and catalytic converter sounds amazing really purrs
Interior is my last project haven’t decided what I wanted to do color scheme wise everything is original good condition front seats show signs of wear and some cracking back seats are in new excellent condition. Car has push button start and remote start ,touchscreen indash monitor needs replacing doesn’t turn on?
Overall all the car is in excellent condition and rare to find in the shape last of a dying bred and pictures doesn’t do her justice have to see in person to really appreciate it.
Things to still be done if I keep the car
- front bumper needs to be adjusted still
- Door poppers and alarm and remote start has to be reprogrammed guess sat to long without use
- Front seat covers
Sad to see her go but she’s ready for a new home to finish her I have 3 others cars wanted to keep in show condition just don’t have the space or time no rush to sell don’t waste time with low offers be willing to trade for sports bike and cash THIS IS A STEAL For the car considering I put in 4 times amount selling price
Let me say that I am a fan of the SC300/SC400. Many moons ago, I owned a 92 SC300 with a 5 speed which is a rare combo. The car was not overly fun to drive despite what the internet says. I would actually prefer the V8 automatic configuration on this car.
The list of demerits here are mostly reversible. There are a ton of more attractive wheels 5×114.3 bolt pattern that will fill out the cars arge wheel wells. The late model LS460 exhaust within a exhaust would be the first thing to go and hopefully the body kit was not hacked up too badly to install these. With any luck a salvage yard would have a white hood for not much dough. The neon license plate light bulbs are also a easy thing to swap.
What else would have to go if you bought this car?

Cory is going to be finishing up swapping on a Mercedes E55 suspension onto his 1999 E300.
SC400 are incredibly well-built cars, decent power, good handling, great ride, incredible longevity and reliability. Unfortunately a lot of them end up like this due to their relatively low resale value. This is a $3k car trying to be an $8K car.
Take the decals off that tires and you got yo self a car!
