NHRA Bracket Racer: 1980 Plymouth Horizon

There is a type of racing on the strip called bracket racing, where the goal is not necessarily to be the fastest car, but to predict your elapsed time and run as close to that number as possible without going quicker. That means a 16-second Plymouth Horizon can be every bit as competitive as a 9-second Camaro—provided the driver is consistent and sharp on the tree. The Slo-Roller is an econo-hatch with a modest 1.7-liter/105-cubic-inch Volkswagen-derived four-cylinder that Chrysler used in early Horizons, paired with an automatic transmission and approximately none of the ingredients normally associated with drag-racing glamour. Buy this, and you’ll be able to say: “I live my life one quarter mile at a time. For those 17 seconds, but not less than 16 seconds, I’m free,” Find this 1980 Plymouth Horizon offered for $7000 in Huntington Beach, CA via facemouth horizonbook.
