For decades, the Nissan Skyline was forbidden fruit over here in the USA — and it wasn’t until they replaced the classic inline-6 with a V6 that it was imported into the USA, and then it was called an Infinity G35 (and alternatively, Nissan GTR in Godzilla spec) and it was a disappointment. Thankfully, you can import older Skylines into America these days, and you can even find cheap examples if you are willing to live with an automatic gearbox and a low-spec, non-turbo version. Re. Nissan’s heroic RB straight six, it’s immensely puzzling that they stuck the VG v6 in my ’93 300zx when it’s heavier, more complex and less powerful than the inline engine. I really like my 300zx, but it’s such a lost opportunity for them. My generation Z could’ve been a halo car like the NSX had they done so.
