Needs Hayabusa Swap: 1987 Cushman Vanster

This next car might be right for you, if you’ve ever thought that you needed a car in your life that needs a bike lock to be used as an anti-theft device. Or maybe you enjoy the thrill of 25 miles-per-hour with your foot to the floor as you are passed by kids on powered electric bikes (those things are a menace on the sidewalks of beach communities these days!). But if you are in the market for a micro-car — it don’t get much cheaper than this. Find this 1987 Cushman Vanster offered for $800 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

1987 Cushman
fuel: gas
odometer: 16435
title status: clean
transmission: manual
Happy Little Car looking for new partner in crime. This is a 1987 Cushman Vanster / Truckster. It has a small 3-speed engine that only goes about 25 mph, with a manual transmission. Similar to a meter maid vehicle, but more like a van- a van that was put in a dryer.

The bad news: isn’t running- well, it starts but doesn’t stay running. Could be carburetor, could be engine, not sure what it needs to get back on the road. I’ve moved on to an electric vehicle, so time to let this go.
The good news:
clean title
registered though April 2021
can park almost anywhere including motorcycle parking
cheap insurance (about 200 year) can give you info on where it is insured
unlike other Cushmans, has room and seat belt for a passenger
lots of space to haul your gear, art, dogs, whatever else you got
super fun to drive around town
brings lots of smiles on the road
I’ve had this buggy about 6 years and have loved driving it, you will too.

Porta Potty with wheels. Don’t slosh the blue goo in a corner.

The cat looks a little sketchy.
I used to drive one of these at work (big research lab campus) and had a lot of fun flogging them around and scaring the shit out of interns. 3 speed manual!
