Mitsubishi Powered: 1971 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback 4X4
This next car is advertised as a VW Squareback Type 3…but I’m not sure how much of the original pancake-4 powered rear engine remains, aside from the body. Power comes from a front mounted 2.6 liter Mitsubishi 4-cylinder engine that was used in a variety of Mitsubishi, Dodge, and Chrysler vehicles…and the rest of the powertrain and suspension and 4X4 system is from whoknowswhat. Find this 1971 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback 4X4 offered for $10,000 in Desert Hot Springs, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

This has rightfully earned a spot in the top-10 list of wacko drivetrain swaps appearing on this site.
“See a better way to get your syncro on without the difficulties of maintaining a true syncro Vdub?”
Uh? Nope. This one is the best…. A s is the see a better way? … tagline. Probably for all of 2023 to date.
