Midas Edition: 1977 International Harvester Scout II

This next Midas IH Scout comes as a tip from Hugh who writes: Including photos of the inside of the engine, but not with oil? These were pretty over the top back then, seems pretty cheap. This IH Scout II is in decent shape and is one of the rare “Midas Edition” version that offered some luxury bits inside the rugged beast. Find this 1977 International Harvester Scout Midas bidding for $14,000 in Mansfield, TX via ebay.

From the seller:

This is a NO RESERVE auction, there is no buy it now price. It takes time, money and effort to post on here, so serious
buyers only please! Only bid if you fully intend to close the deal at the end of the auction. If you are the highest bidder at the end, you bought it!

This is a running, driving scout that has some good options and features, including the big 392 v-8, (the stamp on block indicates it is a 392) dual exhaust, 3 speed auto trans, tinted glass, removable top, power tilt steering, bucket seats front and rear, 4 wheel drive/locking hubs, power disc brakes, cruise control dash clock, deluxe “wood” dash, Air conditioning, deluxe side trim, chrome front and rear bumpers, and 15 inch wagon wheels with new 31 inch tires.
The most rare option it has is the MIDAS package, from what I read, 297 were made in 1977, No telling how many are left now.

The 392 was treated to a comprehensive rebuild several years ago, but not completed/installed/ran till just recently. Engine and scout have less than 5 miles on it since rebuild. Rebuild also included new water pump, aluminum radiator, carburetor , distributor, coil , spark plugs, wires, power steering hoses, radiator hoses etc. The exhaust system was also replaced, new duals with turbo style mufflers.

The seats have been reupholstered , front, buckets and rear buckets. Recent factory style carpet and new door seals have been installed. I also have a 3rd row seat I can throw in upon request, probably will need recovering. The key switch , turn signal switch, and dimmer switch are new. The front windshield and seal were recently replaced, along with new headlights and tail light lenses.
Scout is showing about 45k MILES I can not verify if original or not, but given its condition ,and how long its had expired tags, I believe it is possibly accurate.
Rear wheel cylinders , master cylinder, and brake soft lines were all recently replaced, along with the brake fluid, and electric fuel pump.

The body looks solid and in good shape. The bed floor is in good condition, and still has original paint, and no rust holes. Truck has been in Texas since at least the late eighties, if not its whole life. Truck has been “lot driven”, 4 wheel drive engages with a pull of a knob on the dash, and does work. Tags expired around 1991. Insurance card still was in ash trey from then!

Having said all that, the truck is over 40 years old, and will need some adjusting/finishing/tinkering, It is not perfect, not a show truck, and it is not a new Toyota, but will get plenty of attention! The A/C is not complete, so it does not work, I have an under dash unit that I can throw in on request from buyer, , I may also have a compressor for it, I will have to look. Cruise control is missing at least some vacuum hoses, I don’t know what else might be missing, Horn is in-op, have not looked into it, final tuning and electric choke needs hooking up, oil pan plug needs a new gasket next oil change. So some things need to be addressed ,and probably other things associated with a car put together/running for the first time in 30 years!

You are bidding to OWN the scout, not the right of first refusal! If you are the high bidder at the end of the auction, you bought it! Therefore the $300 deposit through Paypal is due at the end of the auction and is not refundable. You are welcome to ask questions or set up a time to come see it before the auction ends and I will do my best to accommodate you. Make sure you have the funds and the blessing from any significant other before bidding! Be sure to note that the buyer is responsible for shipping. Clean, clear Texas title in hand.
Thanks for looking!
