Manual Conversion: 1988 Mercury Cougar LS

This next car comes as a tip from ME who did a random search for Manual Mercury vehicles and expected to find nothing (or at least nothing “good”) but instead found this sweet piece of Cougar bait. I am even starting to like that strange rear window shape that was so easy to ridicule back in the day…but with a V8, side pipes, manual gearbox, and white letter tires…this thing is pure fire. Find this 1988 Mercury Cougar LS offered for $10,000 in Seven Valleys, PA via cougarface placebook.

1988 Mercury Cougar LS turned muscle car. Freshly built and carbed 302. Converted to 5 speed stick. Suspension, brakes, rear end, and steering upgrades. Too much to list in an ad. Not in a rush to sell, so don’t bother sending me offers. Come check out the car in person and we can talk dollars. Car is in great shape for it’s age and fun to drive.

I think that the proper term for that exhaust system is side exit. Side pipes would run between the front and back wheels, fully exposed outside the body line.
I think I’d pick this over an equivalent Fox body Mustang without hesitation. Lots of advantages here including insurance savings.
Way too much velour. And you have to ask yourself or any other elderly person nearby, Why? Impress the chicks at the nursing home?
Swap in leather seats from Mark VII
Ford’s exit from the Malaise years sure cleans up nicely. I’m surprised at my own appreciation of this gen Cougar as a thoughtfully modded restomod. I like it!
