LS1 T56 Swapped: 1990 Mazda RX-7 FC

The Mazda RX-7 is like that daredevil friend you secretly admire. Its chassis dances through curves, the steering chats your ear off, the brakes flex their muscles, and the Wankel rotary engine loves to party… though it has been known to throw a tantrum from time to time. To keep the good times rolling, you might want to give your Wankel a makeover before its apex seals decide to take a vacation. But hey, some folks decide to kick convention to the curb and give the little spinny engine a retirement party, swapping it for a burly domestic V8. Find this 1990 Mazda RX-7 FC offered for $14,999 in Dublin, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

2000 Camaro LS1 swap with T56 6 speed transmissionI have owned this car for almost 10 years. The main goal was to get it fully California legal and to pass the state ref. The car is 90% done and only needs a few more things to pass inspection from what the referee told me.
Install the skip shift system and wire it in.
Fit and install oem Camaro intakeAll work was done at a shop and I have receipts for most stuff. I do not have the patience nor the time to finish this car and would like to move on to other projects. The car runs great and shifts smoothly and a good 10 footer. It would be a great track car or if you want to put the extra time in to get it to pass the ref.
Parts list:
LS1 w/ T56 (approx 60k miles)
Shorty Headers CARB LEGAL
Granny’s Speed Shop FULL swap kit.
Radiator, Wilwood Master Cylinder, Driveshaft, Radiator bracket, etc
Custom wiring harness done at a shop
Full custom exhaust with brand new California legal catalytic converters
Cobra Wheels (tires need replacing)
AeroCatch Hood pins
Maaco single stage paint (not the best but looks great from 10ft)
Off brand racing seats (I have the passenger seat but no seat rails)
Rebuilt front brakes and full brake flush done recently
Trans flush done this past month
Brand new PS Rack installed in JanuaryI also have a bunch of parts for the car like OEM camaro intake, fc trim pieces and interior bits, fc interior harness, etc
Message for any questions, Thanks!

I wonder if his other project is swapping the Wankel power train into the 2000 Camaro.
When you’re stuck in California’s smog test purgatory…
A) Spend a bunch of money to make it street legal
or
B) Spend a bunch of money turning it into a track car
The owner is facing the harsh reality and choosing…
C) Ask for all your money back from another sucker
If it was so simple to fix the seller would be leaving money on the table by not getting a certificate before selling, so…
Right?
It may be 90% done, but that last 10% is where you’ll spend 90% of your money and time.
Is it just me or do the brake and clutch pedals look super close together? My guess is the builder started this project after someone told him it would be easy to get it carb certified and slowly over the last 10 years he has grown sour over jumping through increasingly complex hoops. The first 60-70% of build process was probably lots of fun, but yeah getting it across the finish line becomes increasingly harder and an exercise in compromises to get it to pass. Love the state, but as I get older view CARB as a terrorist organization. 🙂
