Low Mile Creampuff: 1979 Toyota Celica Supra
In the late 1970s Toyota decided they needed a car to compete with Nissan’s popular inline-6 powered Z-car, so they took the 4-cylinder powered Celica, added 5 inches of length to the front end (to accommodate 2 additional cylinders) and called the new car a Celica Supra. The war of the Japanese sports coupes was on. Find this 1979 Toyota Celica Supra here on eBay
bidding for $1,650 with 2 days to go, located in Cleveland, OH.
This Celica Supra is offered in a lovely shade of aging rubber band beige — a fabulous color for butcher paper, Band-Aids, or dirt…but not a flattering color on a motor vehicle. However, if you are into classic 1st gen Supras, this isn’t a bad example for the current price.
Powering this thing is the 2.6 liter 4M-E, a 12-Valve SOHC inline-6 that produced 110 horsepower and 136 ft-lbs of torque — not exactly a recipe for the next Fast-n-Furious movie, but it should provide some smiles with the included 5-speed manual gearbox.

I test drove one of these (a 1981 model) in the late 80's and found the experience very disappointing. I ended up buying a 1977 280z. It was a night and day better driving experience.
Yeah. They were very well built, great materials, pretty comfortable, but even in Celica form they weren't the most interesting of drives and the Supra was just ponderous.
Cleveland looks exciting
