Little Red Corvette: 1986 Chevrolet Corvette C4

The C4 generation Corvette was a big styling change from the previous C3 Vette. Gone were the stingray inspired fender humps and instead the car featured Lotus Esprit meets a door style styling. It might be the exhaust fumes speaking, but the C4 is starting to grow on me. Find this 1986 Chevrolet Corvette C4 offered for $8,400 in Granada Hills, CA via craigslist.

Never driven in purple rain?
So that’s $1,400 more than stripper Saturn or $2,400 more than a Festiva. Oh wait, they are 5 years newer, that must explain it.
People LS swap these things right?
I’ve sometimes thought you could swap the engine between a C4 Corvette and a mid 2000s GM truck with the 4.8, and improve both vehicles. The TPI is a bit of an odd match to the Corvette’s purpose, but they have a great handling chassis.
I’d sure like a link to anyone making the bits that facilitate a C4 LS swap. During our years of C4 ownership I’d have been willing to throw down the $$ if it wasn’t such a giant compromise. Nobody makes a black box that keeps the stock gauges operational.
I don’t think there’s many cars would benefit more from a LS swap than a C4 so here’s hoping the aftermarket steps in.

You will appreciate the craftwork involved 🙂
Thanks – that’s a great site. As the former owner of a swapped K20a Insight and knowing the pains of smashing a motor in place of another, I’m fully not down for that much fabrication and I don’t have access to a wiring guru. When the day comes that a shop offers pre-made mounts, wiring harness and pre-programmed ECM then … maybe.
But it’s fun to dream even if the Kraftwerk is monumental.
Seems like a business opportunity to do these swaps. It’s probably one of those things where the second or third one you do is vastly easier than the first.
On the other hand, I believe one of the other regulars here has experience replacing a small block chevy with a Mercedes-Benz M120 , so why not go totally bonkers in out imaginary garages.
Or an Allison V-1710 to keep it all GM, yeah that’s the ticket!
