Lightning Rod Project: 1983 Oldsmobile 442 Hurst/Olds

This next car sent me for a roller coaster of an emotional journey. It started with a simple thought; Hey, wow, finally a Hurst/Olds 442 with Lightning Rod shifters offered for a decent amount of money…next pic. Okay, the Lightning Rods are in place, red interior is dirty but intact. Next pic, wow, it comes with a bunch of spare engine parts, and even a spare engine block. Clicks next pic…oh…wait, that is a 2×4 holding the torque converter in place where the engine should be…oh. Find this 1983 Oldsmobile 442 Hurst/Olds offered for $3000 in Poughkeepsie, NY via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Very rare year and options package. 442 engine, Hurst anniversary edition shifter etc.. Dismantled project car. TMU. This car was slated for complete drivetrain overhaul which did not come to pass. The body has VERY LITTLE rust considering the age. No holes, body or paint damage. 1 crack in tail light is the only exception. 3 extra wheels. T-Tops, power windows and doors. Mint condition versions of this very rare car go for $30k and over. Clean title. Any questions or concerns please ask. Will provide more pictures and details by request. Please don’t expect a perfect original car. I’m selling a ground up restoration project foundation. This requires a complete overhaul/rebuild. There is some wear and tare but its been covered in the driveway untouched for years. Thank you for checking it out.

Never a good sign when the pistons and so forth are lined up on a tarp like that fancy Viking eagle business I don’t want to think about. (Anyone see Midsommar? Oof. Better metaphor if this were a Volvo, but even so.)
If you think of it as complete kit, just needing assembly, could be kind of fun. Seller should fasten all the parts to a big square frame made out of white plastic pipes and supply a large tube of polystyrene cement.
Those seem like the right wheels. I like those a lot, especially the version with the holes around the edge.
So little potential..
LOL, yeah I try to find something good & positive in all projects, but I just can’t even think of anything good to say about this.
Probably the only good thing to say is to be thankful that it’s not your project!
The good: The crankshaft has been picked up off of the passenger side floor mat.
The bad: The crankshaft was on the passenger side floor mat.
