Kustom Ghia: 1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
The Type 14 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia used a unique combination of Karmann built sheet metal, General Motor’s first generation F-body Camaro and Ford’s Mustang II and ...wait…what? You say the Karmann Ghia isn’t based on an updated ’57 Chevy platform…somebody better tell this guy. Find this 1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia here on eBay
bidding for $3,550 reserve-not-met with 3 days to go, located in Sheffield Lake, OH.
Perhaps this car should be called the Cartman-Ghia, because it combines American fatman attitude with the classic lines from Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia. It would be nice to know a little more information about the “custom frame” that this thing sits on, but it looks well done.
Powering the GMia is a small block Chevy V8 with an unknown build specification, but given the level of bling I would expect something between 350-400hp. Shifting is accomplished with a Turbo 350 slushbox with a drag racing style shifter setup.

too bulky, lost much of its original grace. I just can't see a KG as a track beast, they are natural born cruisers. on the other hand, I dig the external paint job and the wheels though.
I'd go for a Subaru n/a engine (more than enough for such a featherweight Karmann), a Moto-Lita wood steering wheel, wood trim, a Webasto moonroof and maybe the Fuchs wheels cliche. tan leather would be nice, too.
KGs can be great track beasts, but to only use the skin is to disrespect everyone except Ghia. If updated, I prefer to leave the rear-engined config. That said, the builder showed good restraint. Unlike many Euro-American hot rods, the result isn't cartoonish.
Guys been trying to sell this thing for months. Been on the local CL since early summer.
So he has a mouse loose in the trunk ? looks pretty good be nice to have super quite exhaust to blow a few people away with out a trigger.
This is what you build if you kinda like the looks of a 1970 Camaro front end mated to a Henry J.
