John Player Special Project: 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam

In 1972 the Lotus Type 72 chassis (with Ford Cosworth V8 power) was driven to a surprise championship win by 25 year old Emerson Fittipaldi. The team ditched their red-white Gold Leaf Tobacco paint scheme of 1971 and replaced it with a striking black-gold scheme to celebrate the John Player Special cigarette brand for the 1972 year. After winning the championship, Lotus decided to celebrate with a special edition that started with the big valve Twin Cam engine and covered it in a special paint scheme and cool badges. Today we’ve got a project JPS that appears to be a great bargain if you can do some basic mechanical work. Find this 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam offered for $9000 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Cookeville, TN via ebay.

Vehicle Details
1972 Lotus europa special project. The Lotus needs to be taken to the next level. I have had the engine running many times in the last year, sounds very good with 45 lbs of oil pressure. This car is not drivable yet.The starter was cleaned and checked by a local starter alternator specialist. The seat upholstery kit is from Banks Europa in UK as is the center console and is much better quality than the original.the electric system still needs to be sorted,as do the brakes.the fuel tanks have been inspected a installed and and are in very good condition. The windshield will need to be replaced and the rear glass is lexan. The window motors are in the car and are untested. The suspension appears in good condition and the frame appears solid. There are 5 Special wheels. The Lotus appears very decent and will once again become a great road going classic with very little work. This is a 51 year old car that is in a class by itself and has nothing remotely like it on the road today.thanks for the interest.

It’s hard to tell from photos just how incredibly tiny and low-slung these are. I’m only 5’8″ and found it quite snug when I sat in one, the very definition of a car you don’t so much “get into” as “put it on”. Pedal box is narrow, too; bring a pair of driving moccasins.
