Japanese Wedge Salad: 1986 Subaru XT

The Subaru XT was an oddly shaped coupe that was sold from 1985 through 1991 to fans of wedge styling around the world. Subaru advertised the striking coupe as “the kind of car Mercedes might have built if they were a little more frugal and a lot more inventive.” Unfortunately the styling and interior gimmicks (telescoping instrument cluster that moved with the wheel) wasn’t enough to overcome the 94 hp (or 112 hp with turbo) power of the flat-4 mated to the front wheels. It looked sporty…but sometimes that isn’t enough. Today’s XT has some engine issue and is offered cheap enough to consider swapping in a turbo WRX motor or 3 rotor wankel. No love for the pistol grip shifter?
Envisioning this covered in blue cheese dressing isn’t helping.
God save the 80’s.
Didn’t they use an XT in Cannonball?
