HotRod SUV: 1992 GMC Typhoon

The GMC Typhoon was the SUV version of the GMC Syclone — both were turbocharged-V6 factory hot rod versions of a common compact truck platform with acceleration capabilities that would surprise anything on the street when new. Times have changed and the Typhoon won’t be much faster than the average all-wheel-drive V6 powered crossover you could buy, but way cooler than anything you could buy new today. Find this 1992 GMC Typhoon bidding for $16,650 with 3 days to go located in Brooklyn, NY via ebay.

From the seller:
I am selling my beautiful 1992 GMC Typhoon, production #433 with the infamous AWD 4.3 Turbo Syclone engine. This is a factory Apple Red truck with Argent Gray cladding, making it a very rare 1 of 345 Red/Gray trucks produced. This one still sporting its door escutcheons – if you know, you know. It starts right up and runs great, it’s always a blast to drive. AC blows cold and all the gauges, lights, etc… work as they should. The body is in great shape and the Apple Red paint shines beautifully. Always garage kept and taken care of, comes with the original manual and literature.
Overall, it is a fun and collectible truck that draws attention wherever it goes. With only 4,697 Typhoons every produced, and even less left on the road today, you rarely see these on the road and I have never seen another red one in person. This is not a perfect show or museum car, but something you can turn the key and enjoy while the value goes up. This is a No Reserve auction, so the truck will be sold to the highest bidder.

I would expect most of the Syclones and Typhoons are still around today. You just don’t see them because they were all bought as “instant collectibles” and still sit in garages with near-zero miles. The rising market on ‘80s and ’90s cars is starting to shake them loose. I expect to see more Chevy SSRs appear on the market in about 10 years for the same reason.
