Green and Clean: 1978 Toyota Corolla Wagon

This next car is described as one owner until 2015, but I don’t think it matters if it had 52 owners in the last 42 years, because it looks in amazing shape for what it is. There is a psychosis among certain car guys that a little old lady owned car is the best…but those owners are almost all middle aged guys who take nice care of their classics, so I don’t know why they obsess over grandma’s wagon. I’m not a therapist, but here we are again. Find this 1978 Toyota Corolla Wagon offered for $7,500 buy-it-now in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho via eBay.

From the seller:
This beautiful little Corolla Wagon was purchased new in 1978 at Sundance Motors in Spokane, Washington and owned by the same woman until 2015. Still one of the cleanest and nicest original Corolla wagons in existence with only 69,815 miles. The car was painted once and the dark green metallic paint still sparkles in the sun and looks amazing, though it is showing some light wear and some small chips and dings. There is no rust anywhere on this car. There is a small amount of surface rust from battery corrosion under the hood above the battery area only, this is a very solid and clean car. Very nice interior showing only minimal wear. The whole dash looks almost new and has only 2 small cracks on top which are easily repaired. Runs and drives very good and shifts very smooth. A mileage log was kept up until 2011 when it had only 68333 Miles. Has a newer set of Toyo Eclipse tires. Not a perfect car but arguably close. Susie, as the original owner named her, gets comments and attention wherever she goes, but has not been driven much for years and needs a new home as we have too many cars and are downsizing. Currently the idle is uneven at times but runs great when driving. We will be having a mechanic look at it this week to determine the cause. Clean Idaho Title in my name, ready to be signed over to a new owner. Thanks for looking and congratulations to the new owner.
Located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Interstate 90 in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Wow. Looks like it loved an appreciated by the former owner.
I approve of this green.
Great looking car and one of the last survivors of its kind. These were well built and durable, but never meant to be on the road for more than a decade or so.
One thing I noticed (totally nitpicking): the driver and passenger front seats don’t match. I would guess that the driver’s side was recovered, given the age of the car. The seat has a different stitch pattern from the passenger and rear seats.
It appears that the overall quality of the pattern, stitching, and fit on the driver seat seems better than the rest of the seats which I assume are all original Toyota. At first I assumed the passenger seat was redone because of how it looks inferior to the driver’s, but it matches the rear bench.
Yes, I’m getting really nitpicky, but I used to work closely with an expert auto upholsterer and I learned to spot this kind of detail. At least this seller isn’t claiming this car to be 100% original.
Nice survivor. Judging by the overall condition, I bet the owner stroked out when that dash pad cracked. Bet it would be a blast to source a replacement.
Love the patina on the driver’s door, this car spent a lot of time driving around with the window open & an arm resting on top.
I bet any wide stance old guy could run faster off the line than this slushbox sewing machine could. If it had a 5 speed, maybe just for the grins and absurdity of it. Back in the day, a short 40 YEARS AGO, these were everywhere in Berkeley and the bay Area, dontchaknow! Seller is overly optimistic in his/her/it’s evaluation of its worth. Just saying.
One more thing………The seller stated: “There is no rust anywhere on this car. There is a small amount of surface rust from battery corrosion under the hood above the battery area only”. I know we are in the Orange Anus Era, but up is still up and down is still down. If there is surface rust on the underside of the hood, there is rust. If there is rust under the hood, albeit surface rust, there cannot be “no rust anywhere”.
