Grandma’s Sofa: 1965 Volvo PV544

The Volvo PV444/544 was affectionately called the “Swedish 1941 Ford” even though sales of this 4-cylinder equipped Volvo started in 1947 in Sweden (1958 in USA) and continued through the 1966 model year. It was known for ruggedness, vintage styling, and some surprising wins at SCCA class racing and at the 1965 East African Safari Rally in Kenya. Today’s example is about as cheap as you get for a car that isn’t a total basket case…which means this car is half a basket case, but it has some awesome grandma’s couch interior style. Find this 1965 Volvo PV544 offered for $5000 offered for $5000 in North Pole, AK via freezebook santasplace. Tip from Zach.

Back in the 70s when I was an art student and Vans sneakers was the Van Doren Rubber Company and had a store called the house of flying sneakers in Eagle Rock, they would take a yard of any fabric and $28 and make you a pair of sneakers. I had a pair that looked very much like the upholstery in this Volvo. Also a pair in gold lamé. Nice car.
