German Modern Classic: 1984 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 W201

The W201 Mercedes-Benz C-Class was sold from 1982 through 1993 as a smaller version of the big W124 E-Class sedan. Today’s example even has a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine that really looks like a scaled down version of the M103 inline-6, complete with a squared off version of the oblong air filter housing. It is just a cute version of the E-Class and today’s example is in great shape for the asking price. Find this 1984 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 offered for $5,500 in Greenwich, CT via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Up for sale is my 1984 Mercedes Benz 190e. I am the second owner and have owned it for just over one year. The previous owner took
meticulous care of this car, as did I. I have all the service records from the previous owner, as well as the original window sticker. It even has the original first aid kit!

Interior is perfect 10/10
Exterior is about an 8.5/10 the paint is in great shapeWith only 121,000 original miles, this car has a lot of life left in it. It runs and drives great, and everything is excellent except for the following items:
AC does not work, though it did when I bought it
Antenna does not work, but the motor works
Sunroof fell off the tracks
needs bushings
exhaust rattles during acceleration
-minimal rust on rocker panels
Everything else is great! $5,500 OBO!
Also open to trades for another car, but it needs to be drivable. See less

What a perfect location for this to be, seems like the perfect CT car.
Also those rattles and bushings all wore over time the original owner probably never heard any of it. It just started with a small noise that grew so slowly you didn’t know it wasn’t always there.
Apropos of not-much: a friend in Austin had a 190D in mint shape with a 5-speed. One day it began running rough and stalling. He expressed concerns to a “friend” of his about a possible expensive engine problem so that “friend” then agreed it was a bad engine and offered to buy his car for a criminally low price.
Fun fact: his “friend” knew that it was merely a clogged fuel filter, replaced it then bragged about his amazing score. I’ll omit his name but the “friend” was the kind of guy who’d insist that his single-mom girlfriend drive when they’d both been drinking as he didn’t want a DUI.
Sociopaths will be the death of humanity.
