Fiero Wins LeMons: 1985 Pontiac Fiero

In case you’ve been living on a cave on the moon (and Elon hasn’t given you free Moonlink internet) and don’t know — Ferrari returned to the 24 Hours of LeMans last weekend for the first time in 50 years and took the overall win with a 499P Hypercar. It was one of the those made-for-TV triumphant moments that made me fall in love with motorsports again (sorry, but F1 has been mindlessly boring recently). I don’t think I’ll ever be able to race an actual Ferrari at LeMans, but I bet I could swing racing a Feirrari at LeMons. However, today’s example is a smidge too nice to wreck in a $500 beater race…and that isn’t something I say often about Fierroarris. Find this 1985 Pontiac Fiero offered for $11,000 in Yonkers, NY via FaceAIDeathBook IsComingForYouPlace. Tip from Cory.

One of the better fakes. The proportions and styling are passable enough to fool non-enthusiasts. Definitely the only prancing horse that fits my budget. A good Fiero probably costs only a little less, so why not?
Agree with your take on F1. Lack of real competition has diminished its appeal for many years now. Races are repetitive, TV coverage terrible, some top drivers are disgraceful, the cars are too delicate, etc. I used to follow the entire season and watch every race fully. Now I might watch race highlights once every few races, but I’m rarely interested. It needs a revamp.
I thought this might be a Fiero “Mera” conversion, not exactly a “kit car” but a body-panel replacement performed on brand-new Fieros as a dealer-supported option package without GM corporate blessing/support (on a similar basis as new conversion vans). That whole thing folded when Ferrari sued Corporate Concepts, the outfit doing the body conversions.
However, that was only done to 247 Fieros for ’87, whereas this is listed as an ’85, and other styling details differ slightly from the Mera, so may be an owner-installed body conversion kit after all.
That guy took his sister to the prom.
Fake News.
I’m guessing the seller has some Hawaiian shirts and a Tom Selleck replica mustache – a wispy crumb-catcher that in the right light and from the right angle looks sorta like a genuine Selleck stache.
