Fiberfab Aztec 7: 1966 Alfa Romeo Carabo
The Alfa Romeo Carabo was a Marcello Gandini of Gruppo Bertone designed concept car that not only perfected wedge styling but also was equipped with wicked scissor doors..but you can’t afford one if you could find one for sale, so why not get the Walmart version — something called the Fiber Fab Aztec 7 that included most of the wedge-i-ness and a set of gull wing doors. Find this 1966 Alfa Romeo Carabo Fiber Fab Aztec 7 offered for $6,000 in Sherman Oaks, CA via craigslist.

Very rare. One of about 250 still on the road, approximately 400 ever made. This Fiber Fab Aztec 7 tribute to the one in the world Alfa Romeo Bertone Carabo. TLC has been lavished upon her by way of proper badging, front, back and sides, as well as shift knob and Luisi steering wheel. If it needed it, it was repaired or replaced. Featured in Kit Car Magazine January 1983, this is a lowered 1971 VW chassis with a BAE Ray Jay turbo charged 1600cc flat four motor the previous owner said he put $5,000 into. Registered in CA as a 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo Replica with a coveted referee’s sequence of number certificate, (means NO smogging) Gull Wing doors, Lamborghini Miura windshield, battery shut off switch, air height adjustable rear shocks, MSD electronic ignition, single side draft Weber fully adjustable racing carburetor with tuning manual, manual choke, Western Turbine wheels, new tires, Italian Vitaloni racing mirrors, ceiling console toggle switches, new radio. Original assembly manual included. Not perfect but very impressive. Growls and turns heads. Great wow factor. The mileage is not accurate. Currently insured and driven. Title in hand and in my name. I am going to miss this car.

This one is earning a lot of DT frequent flier miles. Now the 3rd time it's been seen on this site. Last year in January it got the full feature treatment, but it was more than twice the price today. Just a few months ago the price was down to $8K. Now we're at a more realistic $6K. Some buyer's patience is going to pay off pretty soon. I'd like to see the interior. That could make or break the whole car.
Picture two strangers one driving a type 1 hot VW and the other a hot Florida coed driving a Z-28 parked in the same Mat Farrah designed automated structure with web cams .. The way the front tires move around in the wheel well when they turn makes me think this must have some serious wheel spacers incorporated. Does not look good. Tip to the seller: Keep the wheels straight when you take the photos of this one.
BTW, I see that Chip Foose built a replica of the actual Carabo, on a Pantera chassis. That sold in 2013 for $55K. Probably a wiser buy….
