Electric Abomination: 1982 Electrek Uncar

There are two kinds of people in this world; those who make specific statements and those who generalize everything. I am neither. However, the corollary statement is that there are two kinds of cars posted on DT; those which are specifically fun/cool/rad, and those which are generally interesting. This car is neither. It is the ultimate combination of questionable styling, unfathomable un-usability, electricity, and the world’s largest gated shifter mounted on the dashboard. WHAT AM I LOOKING AT? The company that built this was called Unique Mobility, later UQM and now Danfoss(1). Find this 1982 Electrek Uncar by offered for $500 in Boulder, CO via craigslist.

Looks like the lovechild of an AMC Pacer and a brick.

Electro-grem!
Still better looking than a Model X…
ding ding ding! yes. It’s funny, but the Model Y isn’t that bad looking, but the X…uggg.
That’s the most expensive way to purchase a set of VW tarantula wheels and a pair of Monza tail lights that I’ve ever seen. Every other bit is junk unless that rear hatch happens to be the same piece of glass as on a P1800 ES, but to me it looks too tall to be a match.
Looks like a pinto hatch to me.
